I don't know if anyone else noticed this, or maybe its just mine, but I got the 32 GB iPhone 4 to replace my 32 GB iPhone 3GS and I noticed that the iPhone 4 says it has a capacity of 29.06 GB and the iPhone 3GS has a capacity of 29.33 GB.

Now I know that doesn't sound like much, but as someone who fills his iPhone to the brim, it makes a difference to me...

Other than that though, it's an awesome phone!

And you expected that the new OS, drivers for hardware that doesn't exist on the previous model and the included apps would take less space than the older OS and fewer number of pre-included apps?

If that's what it is, I understand, but when I see capacity, in my head that means before all those other things are calculated. I always thought that those things factored into the "other" category in the iPhone storage breakdown. I'm talking about raw pre-usage capacity as listed by iTunes under the name of the phone.

Good point - and I'm not sure if the new model is using Base 2 or Base 10 since I won't have one for a few months.

Out of curiosity, how much space was used by "other" initially?

Just checked. The "other" on the iPhone 4 is 415.8 MB. The "other" on the iPhone 3GS is 340.7 MB. That's on top of the difference in their capacity.
