Limewire might be shutdown for good
Why the RIAA isn't doing the music industry any favors | Electronista

It seems the RIAA in the USA won it's court battle over limewire and might get it shutdown. Thar says nothing for international users of it. But that could mean a lot for limewire's US users.

Very true, There are literally thousands of smaller site just like it.

Not only is it one of the biggest distributors of pirated content, but is probably the biggest distributor of viruses. There are actually some bots that monitor search entries, then kick back search results matching exactly what was entered. Downloading that hit gets you a virus masked as that hit. Seriously… try it if you never have. Enter some completely random garbage and you WILL get a hit.

My ex downloaded a virus about a week ago via Limewire due to not being careful with her downloads. But even breaking up Limewire will just disperse those 50 million illegal music downloaders onto other sites/programs.

Pirating is going to happen as long as people can't justify buying music for full price, and have a free option. Which will be always.
