Yeah, I went to a site last night that scanned the C: drive on my iPad and said I had 5 viruses on it. Then it went to download the .exe to fix it, only it wouldn't download... What do I do?

Wipe it, reload it and then load six different AV engines to fight them off.

You didn't install an AV or Firewall?

OK, listen up, it's pretty easy to fix. First of all, boot into safe mode, hammer the F8 key about 60 times a second during POST and select option 17 from the drop down (scroll down with the "L" key and press F5 to select).

In safe mode, create a bootable floppy using 4 files from an old Windows 95 disk, 17 files from a Windows ME disk and 2 files from an old XP disk. This only works if your machine is using a 32-bit version of iPad OS, if you're using 64-bit OS 3.2 or above, you'll need to create a bootable USB drive by slipstreaming NT4.1 onto a CD and then copy it to the USB, but you'll need to do this in command-prompt mode rather than safe mode.

Anyway, when you've done all that, you'll need to boot to the floppy, install disk-killer 1.4a (not b, unless you're running a hybrid 32/64 system) re-partition your HDD, install Ubuntu 9.04 just to make sure the disk is clean, then reinstall your OS, and all your apps.

Easy.

I finally just ended up pulling my hard drive and pitching it a drawer to avoid this kind of problem. Thinking about selling it on eBay or trading for a perpetual motion machine if anyone has an extra one lying around the house. :)

hahaha, a virus, on a mac, hahaha. Those "pop-ups" scare you huh? Well they did what they were intended to do.

I did hear that if you get a virus to dunk the ipad in steaming hot water with dish soap and it cleans it and will work perfect right after, well if you dont mind bubbles under the screen.

Haha

Go to the pharmacy?

I got one of those the other day and decided to watch it finish its "scan". Evidently my machine is riddled with viruses. I quickly submitted my credit card info and social insurance number so that my machine could be fixed. Thankfully they emailed me right away, using poor grammar (always a sign of quality), to inform me that my machine was fixed. ;)

I submitted my credit card info and everything too to get the viruses cleaned and my iPad is clean, but now I am getting viruses on my credit card statements?!?! What's that all about?

You forgot the most important step...he needs to jump up and down on one leg while patting his head with one hand and rubbing his stomach in a circular motion with the other. That extra step is easy to forget...

Bobtomay, what you really need to do is open the Hidden DOS Prompt on that iPad and run a Chkdsk on the C drive! Then also do an MBR check by running Fdisk /mbr. Report back with your findings. Also let us know the version of MSDOS on that iPad! :D Grin

May want to quarantine as well

I made the mistake of leaving my iPhone setting next to my iPad and now it has it too.
Need to keep your infected device away from your other electronics, wear gloves and mask while using, and disinfect when finished.

I also got some aspirin and ground them up, but haven't decided yet where to put them in. I just got the Camera adapter yesterday, possibly through the USB port?

Just open up a terminal and type format c. Problem should be solved. If not, try blessing it with some holy water and contacting your local priest.
