A day or two after they first came I out, I attempted to purchase 50 through the online store just to see if there was a limit. It automatically changed the quantity to 5, as that was the limit at that time. Maybe it's changed? Try going through the store and see what happens.

I looked on the Apple store ipad page (Apple US site) and it says this:
"iPad order limit: two per customer."
If that is per order or forever I dunno.

Remember when the first generation iPhone came out? Apple implemented the same policy of 2 iPhones per customer. I don't know if the rule is still in effect this could just be temporary for the first year.

Given there's a worldwide shortage I see nothing wrong with implementing a temporary limit until demand can be met. Apple would be crazy to keep it forever and I'd love to see any examples of them having this policy for the lifetime of a product.

Yeah it's just temporary and not a big deal IMO.

Is there really a worldwide shortage? Or is it just hype? I know for a fact the Apple Stores in my area have never sold out of iPads.

From all the articles I've read there is a shortage on the ipad sized touch screens. And that is the bottleneck causing allt he delays. True or not I dunno. Maybe it's just there is just enough for on the shelves but there is no massive backstore of ipads.

It'll be interesting to see how this situation develops in May with the international release.

Bearing in mind that eight more countries are scheduled to start selling iPads in less than a month, PLUS the 3G model is about to come out, YES there appears to be a shortage somewhere in the supply chain.

All the stores near my friends in the states have display models, but only get in 4-5 new ones per week and sell them out immediately.
