Hello Everyone!

I bought an Airport Express today, as advised by some guys who told me it can do 'repeater / ranger extender mode'.

I have a Thompson Gateway TG782T Bigpond wireless modem/router.

Is it possible to connect my airport express to it in the extender range mode?

I am unable to find any threads on how to connect a 'non apple' product to an apple product, in this case the Modem to the Airport Express.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

The airport express can only extend 'airport' based networks I'm afraid.

It works well

The airport express can only extend 'airport' based networks I'm afraid.

As noted.

The Airport Express works well as a "Range Extender" (Wireless Distribution System "WDS Mode") when using an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station.

Extend Bigpond network - Thomson TG782T

Hi

I have the same problem
I have purchased an Airport Express because the Apple Shop told me that it could be used to extend a Bigpond wireless network supplied by a Thomson TG782T modem / router
Telstra tell me that the Thomson will support WDS
I have followed what users have written on Apple Help but it does not specifically apply to the Bigpond Thomson wireless modem router

In Airport utility choose manual setup

In Wireless Tab choose "participate in WDS network"
Radio Mode set to 802.11b/g compatible
Channel can be set anywhere from 1-13 - Telstra tells me it does not matter
Set security to WPA/WPA2 Personal plus password - Instruction from Telstra

In WDS tab select WDS Mode to Remote and tick "Allow wireless clients" and enter MAC address of the router ( found on bottom of Thomson )

Then click update

I then get an error message "Airport Utility was unable to find your Airport Wireless device after restarting" and the light on the AE remains Yellow flashing

Any help would be greatly appreciated

To my knowledge, as per my older post Airport Express can only extend other airport based networks.

I'd go and speak to the people at the Apple store again and clarify your setup.

Looks as though the latest version can extend non-apple networks.

Just try the extend setting rather than WDS
