I was trying to decide between the 15" core i7 MBP (with only 4 gigs or ram)... or the 15" core i5 with a ram upgrade to 8 gigs.

I will be using this computer for graphic design work such as Photoshop, Iluustrator, and inDesign.

I was wondering which was the right way to go?
Any input with explanation would be TREMENDOUSLY appreciated.

thanks

Get the most processor you can afford..stick with the 4GB..that is plenty for most things..if you do need more memory, you can do the upgrade yourself for cheaper than what Apple is going to charge for it..

I agree. Apple will always hinge Mac OS X upgrades on some seemingly random CPU model, so get the highest one you can, lest you find yourself unable to run 10.7 :p

2D graphics are more processor intensive than memory intensive, so the processor is a good choice. Like said above, you can always upgrade the RAM later, but the processor is much less accessible.
