just took the jump and got a MBP. i plan to take all my photo stuff off my PC. i have copies of all my stuff backed up as well, but when i transfer off the pc to the MBP, will the Mac OS version of lightroom still pick up all the edited changes (XML. sidecar files) from all my work?

Mine did. I did loose some xml files because I stupidly managed to wipe my external HD and had to back up from discs, but all the ones with xml files remembered the settings.

XML files are the same no matter the OS. They will be preserved. You can just transfer your LR catalog right over with no hassle. If you have any further questions about LR, you can find great help at the Lightroom Forums
