Hi,

First time poster, some time lurker.

I did a quick search, but couldn't find anything applicable. If I've missed something, apologies.

My friend is considering migrating from Windows to OSX, principally for iPhone SDK development. Before he does make the move, he'd like to have some exposure to OSX.

I was wondering whether it's possible for me to setup an account for him on my iMac (27" i7) and allow him to connect remotely. We both have fast(ish) Internet connections. He's on Windows 7 at present.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

gtxizang.

It's possible,

however lot of tinkering is required,

First,
the Windows PC needs a VNC connection application, there are loads of them,
One free easy to use and set-up I know is "Team Viewer"

Next,
Make sure Firewall lets connections through, as well as any router you have connected.

Do note, that remotely operating a mac from a pc, disables a lot of nice tricks,
for example, windows uses a very different kind of keyboard combos etc..

So using Teamviewer is very easy to set-up

For the Apple part of the story,
just add an account, and install team-viewer on it, make sure the account is logged on at all times.

Hope this helps you out!

Cheers mate!

You could also use LogMeIn.com. The free version will allow you to do screen sharing with minimal fuss.

Thanks for that. I'll try that this evening. I tried the LogMeIn solution on my MacBook just now. I have two accounts logged in on my MacBook. My one and my second account. I have 'fast user switching' enabled. When I go to the LogMeIn website and connect to my MacBook, it asks for my username and password. If I enter the second account details, it display's my primary account desktop.

That's not right, is it? Anyway, that's not a workable solution for me as I want to be able to continue to use my account when my friend is using their 'second' account.

Any thoughts?

PS. Thanks for the prompt responses.

the fas login is creen is crucial indeed,
just make an "extra" account for your friend,
make sure in this account that firewall is either turned of, or Teamviewer is allowed to receive incoming signals.

make sure that the account is continuously logged on,
use the fast-switching screen to switch either to loggin screen, or your account.

next, set up teamviewer in such a way that you always have the same password,
if you just keep it running at all times this wouldn't even be necessary,

This way, teamviewer just connects to the specified user,
He will be able log the account off and such.. so beware for that ;-)

Hope this helps for you,
any more questions i'd be happy to help
