I have a new iMac and have bought iWorks for my writing needs. What I need now is software to do construction drawings for home building, etc. I used to use AppleWorks on my old Power Mac G4 which was satisfactory, but I no longer have it and would rather upgrade to a current program.

Any suggestions?

i use ipaint, but it's basically mspaint, which probably isn't good enough for floor plans and the like

You say you want a current program
Why not the current AppleWorks.
This way it is current and you know the App and how to use it.
Would be easier than trying to learn new ones ??

Just food for thought :)

I used SweetHome3D for my Power Mac G4, though on certain levels it may not be what you're looking for.

I used OmniGraffle to draw up plans for my deck, using grid paper. Not sure if that's exactly what you're looking for, but I thought I'd mention it.

Snow Leopard does not support AppleWorks, and Apple has abandoned it.
The other cool graphic programs mentioned, do not do building and architectural drafting.
I'll try a google search. Thanks.

Wow, AppleWorks had software to do architectural drafting? Wow.

How about this?

Architectural Drawing

Not cheap, but it certainly seems like it can handle that.

Also, Google's free SketchUp has an add-on for dimensional drawing (although that's mostly geared toward 3d illustration).

I wanted something simple like AppleWorks to just do 2D line drawings (plans). I found something called "EasyDraw" for $95. Works just like AppleWorks and compatible with Snow Leopard.

Sorry thought it did what from i have read in the  Discussions HERE....
It seems  has not done anymore with it, but seems to run fine under 10.6.1

Cheers
