command entered: mv MAIN DRIVE 3 ~/musicpics/MAIN DRIVE 3
result: usage: mv [-f | -i | -n] [-v] source target
mv [-f | -i | -n] [-v] source ... directory

Moving Main Drive 3 to musicpics

I don't "hear" anything happening. Is it moved? In musicpics, would I find it under Main Drive 3 still? Thanks.

Unix doesn't like spaces..so you can move it within Finder which will handle this nicely, but if you want to stick with the command line, you'll have to use

mv MAIN\ DRIVE\ 3 ~/musicpics

You are "escaping" the spaces, to get the real directory name. In your original command, "mv" thinks you gave it 6 directories to move around..:)

I'm trying to move hidden files on my HD into my external drive. Still, nothing seems to be happening.

Are you getting any feedback at the command line? If not, that is usually a sign that things went well. If it didn't, you should get some sort of message. Are you escaping the spaces as Raz0rEdge as noted above?
