Hi there,

I am upgrading my First Gen to a 3GS. When first plug my new phone into iTunes, should I restore it from the "backup" of my old phone or register it as a "new phone" ?

I have heard that doing the latter can help to improve battery life. I also don't want to lose any of my applications that I have purchased.

Any ideas? Thanks!

The Apps should all be in iTunes from your old phone, so you won't lose anything.

I would register it as a new phone and then just load what you want.

When I updated ( a year ago ) I am pretty sure I did both ?. I seem to remember regestering as a new phone then restored it from old backup to restore all my settngs etc.

Here I took a minute to check and here is what apple has to say on it:

Hope it helps
