The "i" originally stood for internet when the iMac was released. The prefix has remained ever since, and now basically refers to an Apple "consumer" model (as opposed to the "professional" Power series).

D'oh, my powerbook doesn't have internet I guess.

No, he is right though.

Maybe they should make it iPowerbook, or Powerbook iG4, the ideas are endless.

This is alittle off subject but, does Apple have anything to do with BMW's iDrive system in the 7, 6, 5, and 3 series?

No. From what I've heard, that system actually runs Windows CE (the "baby" Windows that is also the basis for PocketPCs.)

I've also heard that the system is infuriating or even dangerous to use while driving. Sounds like a Microsoft product to me.

Yeah...your probably right. Especially how consumers complain about the glitches iDrive has. Sounds like a windows product to me. I was just wondering because BMW signed that agreement with Apple to introduce "iPod Your BMW."

"i" is also an exclamation point upside-down. :)

What's kinda interesting is the fact that IEEE1394, which is an Apple invention, is called Firewire by Apple, but iLink by Sony...
