Gates also said that using technology to improve safety should be the foremost use of automotive computer systems with ultimate aim being producing a crash-proof car.

But in all seriousness, in order to have a "crash-proof" car everyone on the road would need a "crash-proof" car. I'd like to see a demo of this brain child of Gates dodge a drunk driver in an intersection. When that happens, it's then time to use the term "crash-proof".

Now that is a truly scary thought...can't you just picture trying to drive through Los Angeles traffic if all the cars were controlled by computers powered by a Microsoft operating system and software...

I think that we need more idiot-proof equipment than crash-proof cars to be honest...

i was watching some motoring show and they previewed a new car (can't remember what) which had windows operating some of it's electrical goings on. All well and good, until you stall the car. Then you have to wait whilst windows reboots itself. Great fun if sat half way out in the road!

Which reminds me of my trip to the grocers last night. 3 of the 4 self-check kiosks were down and when someone inquired why they didn't work the clerk explained that they were having a problem with the Windows OS. Good times to be had by all. I suggested they switch when the person in line next to me said she also uses Apple. We had a chuckle.

True story...
