Hey guys!

I'm looking to see what options are out there to let me send my audio to my 5.1 surround system.

In all honesty, not many of my movies are encoded for 5.1, but I do want to get the signal to goto all speakers (including rear l&r and centre/sub) not just my front A&B stereo speaker sets.

I've seen things like:

Terratec Aureon 5.1 USB MKII External 5.1 surround: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

TRUST SC-5500P 5.1 EXTERNAL SURROUND SOUND CARD: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

Creative USB Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Sound Card - Get more out of your music and movies

but I can't find definitive answers as to which one's mac compatible, and most of them are usb, not firewire.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Any help would be very much appreciated!

5.1 sound card

hi Phil,

just caught your post.

I know this is late, but I can report a 5.1 sound card that works well for mac osx.

it is the asonic 7.1 sound card. ( available for £14 + postage from ebuyer)

YOu get 2, 4, 6, or 8 channel sound available in audio midi setup,

and you get mic in line in and spdif in.

the one thing not available is the spdif ouput.

however 5.1 works great in vlc, quicktime (with perian), and mplayer.

hope this helps

leo :)
