I find listening to music gives me not only inspiration for design but it also sets the mood for whatever I am designing.

I frequently listen to:
Radiohead
Placebo
Pearl Jam
Soulfly
Sweeney Todd (the Broadway versions NOT with Johnny Depp!)
The Decemberists
Eminem
Jay-Z
Atmosphere
Godsmack

What do you listen to? I think this can be a fun thread! :)

Generally nothing. If I have to stay up late and be alert then I will be playing some heavy metal. :p

At work everyone shares there itunes lib so there is plenty of variety to listen to. However I find myself listening to books instead. At the moment I am hooked on Scott Sigler novels. He writes and reads his own stuff, and the guy is a nut!!! He will NOT put you to sleep, but listen at your own risk ;)
You can find his stuff at Scott Sigler: Bestselling Horror Author and Failed Pimp or check out Podiobooks.com - Serialized audio books in podcast form

Matt

Just a warning, If you are squeamish, a nun, or are easily offended do not check out his site!!! I warned you!

iBook G3 - You'll be missed.
Heavy / Death / Thrash metal usually. Sometimes some softer stuff like minus the bear. I have done a LOT of work to the Menos el Oso album from minus the bear. Just something about it is very stimulating.

Other than that though, like I said above. Usually things that make the mind depict visions through lyrics.

I'm not really a graphic illustrator/designer, but I do give making logos a whirl every once and a while. I'm also into photography and when I'm post processing or creating an artistic look to my work, I love listening to :

The Beastie Boys (Pauls Boutique and Ill Communication are particularly tasty for this type of work.)

Interpol
The Time
Curtis Mayfield
Funkadelic
James Brown
Rolling Stones
Kings Of Leon
Beatles
Radiohead
Diana Krall
Underworld
Freddy Hubbard
Coltrane
Grizzly Bear (god I love them. Saw them live in Brooklyn for free this past summer... wow. Amazing. )
And sometimes just a good ol' mix of 80's cheezy music.

Too many more to list. And yeah, it's an eclectic mix there....

That's some good stuff! I'm a bit surprised there's so many metal heads around here. If I need the concentration, I'll put on some Rammstein, but I usually listen to a mix of industrial, metal, techno, alternative, etc...
