I'm a new mac user and when running my favorite image editing software (Picture Publisher) in Windows XP via Boot Camp, the image will suddenly shift slightly after awhile. I have heard rumors that Windows can run hot and make this occur. Is this true and is there an answer... like supplemental cooling? I need this Windows program yet love the iMac. Would Parallels offer better heat control if that is indeed the issue? THANKS!

Certain programs when run in Windows via a Boot Camp install or using VM software, can indeed raise the internal temperature. But that usually happens with graphic intensive games and not so much with publishing software or graphic imaging programs.

How about giving us an idea of the specs on your Mac? Year, model, and so forth.

Regards.

It's a 2.8 GHz Dual Core w/2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
I bought this in January.. so.. 11 months old.

My PC guy said this sounded quite possible... overheating. Would it run cooler in Parallels over Boot Camp? He also suggested that it might be a video card driver issue.

If anything it should run smoother with less distortion from Boot Camp than from Parallels or Fusion. Running cooler is another matter but in my experience with using both Fusion and Boot Camp, it really didn't make much difference as far as temperature goes.

The suggestion to update your video drivers if possible is a good one. Give that a try and see if it resolves the problem. Go to your graphics chip maker's web site (nVidia or ATI) and download their latest XP drivers for your chipset.

Regards.
