I have searched this forum and do no find an answer to these question...

I used to use FireFox on a PC, and just switched to Safari on an iMac. I have been accustomed to hovering or clicking on an email link in a website, and having my Yahoo Mail login page open (or a create message page if I have already logged in). In Safari, when I click on these links, the Mail application opens and asks me to set up an account. Since I'm not using Apple Mail, this is not helpful. Also, when I hover over these email links, I do not see the linked email address, like I used to in FireFox. The only workaround I know to see hidden emails is to view the page source info.

So, does anyone know how I can change Safari to open my Yahoo Mail? I need to know before I decide it's time to use FireFox on the Mac. Thanks!

I have good and bad news my friend.

The bad news is firefox on a mac will do the same thing as safari.

The good news is that you can set your yahoo account into mail.

To get your yahoo account on mail just download this

MacFreePOPs Review - Mac Webmail to POP Tool - About Email

Install it and make sure its running

Then open mail and go into preferences

Then select the accounts tab

Then hit the plus button and add your name and yahoo account and password.

Make sure the "automatically set up account" box is unchecked.

click continue

For account description type "Yahoo Mail"

For incoming mail server type "localhost"

*don't add the "".

For username type your email address in there including the @yahoo.com

click continue.

click continue again ignoring the error.

Make sure Password is selected under Authentication.

Have "use secure socket layers" (SSL) unchecked.

Select an existing mail server to send mail under Outgoing Mail Server.

Click continue.

Now click create.

Select the yahoo mail account in the account tab.

Go to the advanced tab.

Enter 2000 under port.

Close the accounts window.

Click save.

Seems like a lot of work but thats the only way that I know of to not send safari to mail.

This is probably the only method--worth the length though. Perhaps Windows has Mac beat in this (specific) instance? ;D

You do this in Firefox on the Mac the same way you did in Firefox on Windows. Set Yahoo! as your mail provider in Firefox preferences.

Yes, that's the easy answer. But, he's using Safari. Ah, therein lies the rub!

I was correcting zacharace's assertion that " firefox on a mac will do the same thing as safari."

zacharace has already provided an answer for Safari.

Thanks, all.

Now I have mgsfan18 saying FireFox will perform the same as Safari on my Mac, and technologist saying that FireFox will work as desired. Which is correct?

I have no problem in switching to FireFox if it will perform as desired.

Also, if I decide to follow mgsfan18's procedure, will it require me to have a Yahoo Mail Plus account? I do not.
