Microphones in Vista

I'm using Windows Vista ultimate 64bit on a Mac Pro and I just want to use a headset for skype and pc games. Vista seems to detect that I have plugged in a line-in device, but I am not getting any sound recognition whatsoever. If anybody can help me resolve the issue I'd be very grateful. I can't find the answer I'm looking for anywhere else.
