Emac into a PC Advice

Hello,

I've got a couple of Emacs and was wondering on any tips on making one of them into a PC?

I like these machines design (very retro) , but even my 1.42 model has not got the hardware to play flash smoothly. I've downgraded to 10.4 used Safari 3 and added 2gb and a new hdd to maximize its speed, but still, it is not upto the job. Its ati hardware cannot play openGL is at issue.

I was thinking of gutting my early model emac and inserting a micro atx atom inside instead. I could then (in theory) run osx and use its modern hardware to play HD flash ie from youtube, which is getting more and more common.

Any advice on doing this would be cool, or examples of others who must have already done this proceedure.

Google would be your best bet to find someone that has done what you would like to attempt.

There may or may not be anyone here that has gutted an old Mac to put modern hardware in it. I don't recall anyone doing so, but I am half senile.

However, any discussion pertaining to installing OS X on non-Apple hardware would be outside what is allowed in this forum.

To the OP - eMacs, while good machines, will never perform at the level you want for video, and experimenting with alternative hardware inside an eMac is likely to lead to all sorts of complications with hardware compatibility. [Not to mention stepping outside Mac Forum boundaries!]

Having worked with both Win and Mac hardware, and upgraded both in various ways, I'd suggest you buy a Win-based machine and use it for screaming fast video. If you're determined to stick with Mac, a Mac Pro will do what you want - at significant cost!
