As usual set up my MBP to do its weekly backup to Ext 800 FW drive with options to repair Permissions. Came back into room 5 mins later to see blue screen with mouse icon as only thing visible. After some messing around got MBP operating but no way would Ext HD mount, not even visible in Disk Utility. Then discovered my non techy partner had decided to log into her User to check emails then logged out and left while i was out of room.
Seems disturbing Superduper in middle of permsssions can cause problems.
Issue fixed by taking cover off HD unplugging multi pin ribbon to Seagate Unit powering up for couple of minutes, then power off and reassemble. Luckily both partitions back and no data loss. Phew!
