Hi all,

I have a Trekstor HardDrive which is meant to be 500GB but it shows full at 189GB, I was wondering if anyone would mind letting me know how I can fix this as I would like to put more files on it, I have backed all the files up on a friends Harddrive so I don't mind if the drive is wiped.

Thanks in advanced

The Shaba

It sounds like the drive has been partitioned. You can use Disk Utility from Applications, Utilities to completely wipe the drive clean and then reformat it for use. Make sure you know which file system you wish to use on the drive and that you format it as one partition. A 500 GB drive should format to around 470 to 480 GB.

Regards.

Could you post a screen grab of Disk Utilities please?

Cmd+Shift+4 (Just drag a box over the window).

Sorry, but I don't see a 500 GB drive there. You're showing the main internal drive as a Hitachi 232.9 GB (probably a 250 GB drive) and another drive as a Samsung 186.3 GB drive.

Is the Samsung drive supposed to be 500 GB? If it is, you're describing a partition which is 186.3 GB. The remainder of the drive may be unformatted and would not show up as a partition. But Disk Utility should show you the unformatted part. Does it?

A screen shot sure would help.....

Regards.
