I have an Aluratek External Hard Drive that I used to back up my files on my old PC. I have some files (Word Documents, Excel Spreadsheets, MP3s) that I would like to access on it however my iMac does not recognize the external drive.

I did check out the manual online:
http://www.aluratek.com/downloads/ACDUES350F_Manual.pdf

It does give instructions to make it accessible for Apple Products. However, I think I would have to reformat the entire drive before doing so.

My question, is there a way to access these files on my external HD without reformatting it first?

What mac are you using, is it a laptop?

The Mac can read and write FAT32 drives and read Windows NTFS drives, so the Mac recognising the drive should not be a problem.

Have you tried it with the drive's power adaptor attached, there may not enough juice from the USB port to power the drive
