I currently use Convertxtodvd on my Windows based machine. What program allows you to convert avi's on a mac so that you can burn them and watch them on a DVD player?

Handbrake will do the job. A brilliant and FREE program.

Make sure you preview it before you burn, though -- a lot of AVI files will burn with no sound...has something to do with the coding...
