Hi all, not sure where this belongs really...

So here's the go.

Had the GF's iMac running all day dl torrents etc. Decided to boot into XP and play some TF2, as it is one of the few games that will run decently on the iMacs less that stella power, but that's another story.

Anyhow, after about an hour of playing, the screen just goes all weird, with strange artifacting, the colours are just all off and messy. I exit the game, and in Windows it's still all crappy. I reboot the system, boot into XP again, and it's fine. I play TF2, and again after around an hour it goes weird again and I have to reboot the system.

I thought that it's maybe because of overheating, as the iMacs are quite cramped, but I can't find a program that will report the VC's temps, in-fact I don't think the VC has a thermo. I tried using RivaTuner & GPU-Z to find the VC temps with no luck, it just doesn't show anything.

We have never had this issue before, but then again I have only just finished installing and updating TF2 to get it working, it's a legit copy installed and updated via Steam btw. Haven't really played games on this for longer than an hour. Running this on XP SP3 with all important updates installed.

One thing I am unsure of is if it's maybe because of the graphics drivers? I have tried looking to see how to update them, as I just used the provided drivers on the Mac OSX disk, but I can't seem to find anything. I am thinking if it was heat it would have happened straight away after the 1st time, not after 1hr+ of playing...?

Could the RAM be to blame? I did an upgrade from the original 1GB to 2GB (kept 1x 1GB original and added 1x 1GB Kingston). How can I test the RAM on an iMac?

Here's some screen shots to illustrate what I am saying:

System specs:

OS: XP SP3/ MAC OSX 10.5 (or whatever the latest is).
CPU: Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo T7700 @ 2.4GHz.
RAM: 2x PC-5300 DDR2 (both by Hyandai Electronics!).
GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600XT, GDDR3, 65nm, GPU 600MHz, Memory 685MHz (though CPU-Z reports the stock speed as 650Mhz!).

Anyone have any ideas? Our next port of call is Applecare, but I doubt they will want to help with a game causing artifacts while running XP... :Grimmace:

Thanks in advance!!

For drivers, check the ATi site.

When I installed Boot Camp on mine, I uninstalled the graphics drivers (nVidia) and downloaded the new ones off their site to ensure optimal performance. The ones on the system discs are probably ancient!

With regards to the colors, it looks like something is getting a little toasty. Strange how it'll do another hour of game play before it will do it again though. Do you have Apple Care?

EDIT: forgot to say, nice setup! :)

Hi marty, thanks for your reply.

Yeah, I found some on the AMD site that were specifically for the VC running on an iMac in bootcamp, haven't installed or tested that yet though, just got back from a small vacation.

Yeah, until Nov 2010.

Thanks. It's just a standard 24" iMac package, plus the Razer pro-pad. ;D
