Hi
I have a Mac book pro 134 - my airport works fine everywhere till now BUT!!!
A place I often visit has a wi fi network with password- my MBP doesn't show it on the list of available networks.
I have the network name and password and tried all the wireless options to connect but no luck!
Next to me are 3 guys with PC laptops all have the wireless going and I can't tell you how embarrassed I was standing there with my Mac...
Any ideas how to get me and my Mac our lost pride???
Thanxx.

It may be a hidden network try clicking on "join other network" . Then entering details of hidden network should allow you to join even if it is not showing in the MenuBar drop down.

In one scene i was in a public information office with free wifi - i could see it and join with my iPhone but not with my MacBookPro. All wireless networks are not created equal and my guess is some enthusiastic PC types set up some networks too tightly, such that only PCs can get on. Not much help, i know.

Can the Windows people see the network in the list? Some have said Macs have issues when the SSID is hidden.

The only thing I can think of is that the router is using MAC filtering on the router and their systems are allowed. What kind of place is this you are visiting? Otherwise I can't see why you are not seeing the SSID of the router if it's visible to the Windows users. You say there is a password. What kind of encryption? WEP? WPA?
