How to use external hard drve without time machine?

Hi, I just bought an external hard drive: WD My Book 320 GB. I want to backup my Photoshop works, and other specific things on it, but not my whole computer. I can't seem to figure out how to use it flash drive style instead of using time machine. Can you help me?

You should be able to simply plug the drive in and start using it like a regular flash drive after it has been formatted properly.

To do so, open Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app), click on the new HD, click on the Erase tab, set the Volume Format to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) (if you are planning to use this with Windows as well, choose FAT32) and click Erase...
