Hi, I am trying to figure out a few things and was hoping these forums could help me. Here's my situation:

For a million years I had an old G4 tower. I finally upgraded to a new MacBook. I declined the free recycling from Apple when I first ordered my computer because I wanted to hang onto it for a little while. Here's what I want to figure out how to do:
How do I find my hard drive so that I can smash it? (I heard this is the only way to eradicate my files) And once I do that, how/where can I recycle the rest of my tower?

Thanks in advance for any helpful answers!

You don't need to smash the hard drive to eradicate it. You can use Disk Utility to do a 7-pass DoD-spec secure erase and safely dispose of it, or better yet, donate it to a deserving charity.
