I have to ask how many of you guys were able to download and install the public beta? I was able to do so, and I installed it onto my iMac using boot camp. I do have to say that I like it pretty well, I just wish that I was actually able to connect to the internet. =( it says that I am connected but no go. oh well. I do look forward to having a chance to work with it a little bit more.

Trying it under VMWare Fusion on my Macbook and so far I'm impressed. It doesn't look much different from Vista but the performance is far and away better.

It loads faster and performs better than my XP VM too.

The VM ware tools install no problem the driver model is obviously similar to Vista. I suspect the re-write has been all about performance rather than feature changes.

Time will tell if it's worth keeping as a replacement for the few tasks I can't do in OSX but so far it's looking OK.

So far I have noticed faster speeds than vista, the sidebar thing at the start was a little bit more annoying but that was fixed easy.

windows 7 still has the UAC but now you can scale it down or up without turning it off. The taskbar is kinda like vista was and borrows some parts from the newest kde development. With programs you can drag them down the the taskbar like the quicklaunch but it borrows a part from the dock in mac os x where it only uses the icon from the quicklaunch thingy. So far my only problem is that my internet refuses to work for it. I might try it on a normal pc and see how it goes from there.

Did you guys notice the memory footprint? It's remarkably low, especially compared to Vista.

Very much so, I think it has to do with that they wish to launch a netbook windows 7, so everything needs to be low usage.

I installed 7 via Fusion and it works great. Installation was very quick and the system responds very well, despite me giving it only 1GB of memory to work with. I understand why so many people feel as though it mimics OS X. UAC seems to bug me about as often as the OS X security prompts do, such as running a program downloaded from the Internet. The Control Panel is also somewhat reminiscent of System Preferences with its single clicking and "Show All" button at the top left.

I have to admit, this is a pretty strong showing on Microsoft's part. Windows 7 shows a lot of promise, let's hope the company doesn't screw this one up.

I'm trying the 32-bit version since I hear the 64-bit version doesn't work too well with virtualization programs (I have a slow connection, so I decided to play it safe).

Not sure if I'll get to try it out.
Managed to get a key from Technet. But have about 8 failed downloads so far. They just stop at anything from 35 MB to 600 MB as though finished and no resume option.
Trying FF now and will see if it gives me option to resume if it stops.

What link are you using? Mine worked great on the first try. I got the links from a fellow forum user at one of my other forums.

Windows 7 - OverclockersClub Forums

You could also try giving torrent a try. That'll give you your resume option.

Have tried about 4 different ones. Going through Technet, it never would even start the download. Probably because I'm downloading it on my Mac.

Thanx for the link. That one is down to 15 KB/sec right now.
Think I'll try a torrent and see how that goes.

btw: Are any folks getting some good O'C's out of the new i7 chips? Am seriously thinking about building another rig myself.

No point for me to try it out. I'm actually having fun with NetBSD!

I am using the 32 bit edition, but I'm going to be downgrading to vista by the end of the week. Not because I don't like windows 7 but it blows not being able to connect to the internet. So I'm going to be giving it a whirl on my real PC so I'll keep adding some notes here and there about what I notice.
