I want to use boot camp to set up windows but I do not have a WindowsXP disc but rather I have downloaded the OS installation from my school's IT department. It is WindowsXP SP2. Is there a way for me to use the downloaded OS or must I use an installation disc?

Was the download in the form of a disk image? In other words, was it an ISO?

If it was an ISO, use Disk Utility to burn the ISO to a CD. That will render the CD bootable and you'll have a Windows XP installation disk.

Of course the version downloaded from your school's IT department will have to be a full install of XP SP2. You'll also need a product key which you should get from the same place you downloaded the image.

Regards.

In my experience, these group-licensed versions do not work under Boot Camp (mine did not, and I got a disk with a full SP2 version from my IT group), but some (a few) have reported success - please report back if you are successful. My guess, however, is you'll need to get your own copy. Good luck!

I used my volume license XP SP2 disk (which is for my school - I'm the IT guy there) with Bootcamp just fine, and now It's running in Parallels without no problems.

There shouldn't be any problem with volume licenses.

Like other have said if it's an ISO or similar disk image you'll need to burn it to CD.

If it's just the raw i386 install folders etc you can use a tool like nLite (on a windows PC) to create a bootable/installable disc.
