I have a refurb 20" 2.4ghz iMac, bought it January 2008. I tried installing XP.
After partitioning, restarting, watching it load some files in dos, then restart again, it would show the XP install screen for about 5 seconds then my whole computer would shut down. It did this 4 or 5 times before finally working.
A couple days ago, I decided to do a fresh install of OS X. Along with it, I figured I would format and reinstall XP, since the original 10gb partition was way to small.
I ran into the same problem, except this time, I can not get it to work at all.
I tried partitioning it 30gb in NTFS, NTFS quick, FAT, and FAT quick. Then a 20gb partition again will all four format options. Every time it would shut down at the same point.
I am clueless as to what is going on. I bought a Macbook Pro about 2 weeks ago, and had no problem installing XP; I did a 20gb partition with a FAT system.
I have used boot camp before, am not inept. Something is clearly afoot...
I would really appreciate if someone could help.
