Trouble Playing Avi Files with Quicktime

How can I get .avi's to play using Quicktime, I first get this message saying I cant play Avi without something yet they cant connect to the server but then when I hit play again it starts playing the sound to the video but not the actual video.

avi sux as a format, its main flaw is misaligned audio and video, use divx doctor 2 to convert it to a .mov playable and editable in qt.

ita always worked for me. and use mplayer, not vlc.

Yeah, VLC is a good client to try. Basically any movie that I can't open with Quicktime, always opens in VLC.
