I have an 80GB MacBook and recently bought a 500GB Time Capsule.

How can it be that in only a couple of weeks Time Capsule has backed-up 120GB from my Macbook?? - (40GB more than the capacity of MacBook)

I haven't downloaded any huge files - just general internet browsing.

Seems a bit odd, but I'm sure that there's a logical answer - anybody out there know the reason???

Cheers

Only thing I can think of, is that there is more being changed on your computer than you think. Remember it does a full backup, then every hour is backs up anything that has changed. One way to limit that is by changing the period of time that your TC does it's backup. For example, I only have it turn on twice a day instead of every hour. You can find a program called "TimeMachineEditor" which will allow you to modify that backup schedule.
