File Sharing

Okay I must be dumb or something because I've read multiple tutorials and walk throughs and I still don't understand. Can anybody lay it out in english for normal people haha. I just want to share like music and movies over my network to literally the exact same type of macbook I have. Anyway I can have it so I drop the items into the Public Drop Box and have the other just pick the files out of there? Any help will be appreciated!
