I've been thinking about getting and external portable drive to use as a scratch disk for Photoshop. Should I go for the WD My Passport Studio with the FW800 interface? Would FireWire be better than USB for this purpose?

FW800 is certainly a lot faster for file and data transfer than USB 2.0. Now whether or not it's worth paying the extra amount of $ for that drive is something you're going to have to decide.

Regards.
