macbook pro won´t connect to wep wifi network

hi, i have a friend and in his place the wireless network has an wep key(he gave me) and an ssid(Gonçalves). i can not connect to that network in any way!
in searching it shows: 'GonAalves' is it because of te 'ç' caracter in ssid?
manually even if i enter the data mac can not find the network 'Gonçalves'
Aprecciate help

Yes, the SSID is screwed up. Have him change it to use normal characters numeric and or alpha.
