They are both different and both great. Hard to pick. Depends on my mode at the time I want to listen to music!

you cannot compare them, their music is totally different genres, and like chalk and cheese. Both are the top bands in their respective fields

I agree with all of the above, but I still pick Led Zeppelin. :)

I outgrew both after jr high, personally, but I think it's an interesting question...Zep is more "heavy," kind of extroverted, dionysian...floyd is more introverted, spacey, apollonian...these are generalizations, of course.

hmmm naw, I can't do it. I think maybe I tolerate Floyd a little more.

And when most bands cover a song, they give credit to the original artist.

They don't leave the song uncredited... or even worse, claim ownership and songwriting rights to it.

Zep defenders say old blues artists did the same thing with tunes, borrowing, adjusting, and so on. And that is in some measure arguably true. But nobody ever did it to Zep's extent. Not even close. Perhaps they could have given just a wee bit of credit where it was due?

Eh, i dunno, look at Bob Dylan, especially on his last album (he claims he "wrote" "Rollin and Tumblin")

There's also a bit of controversy over where the alleged "heavy" sound of zeppelin comes from...the Jeff Beck Group was arguably doing a lot of that (and better) before Zep's rise to power. Compare the two versions of "You Shook Me" on "Truth" and "Led Zeppelin" -- spotting the copycat gets pretty easy.

Totally separate genres, IMO. I prefer Pink Floyd overall, but Zepplin also gets high marks in my music collection.
