I just bought a MacBook with the Canon C4200 and it didn't come with the cable to connect it to the Mac - I'm about to buy one online but just realised that I'm not sure what the connection is at the printer end (not at home currently!)... Can anyone tell me which cable I need?

Cheers,
madness.

Are you sure it's a Canon printer? I can find a HP C4200 but not Canon. In any event, a standard USB cable long enough to reach your printer from the MacBook should suffice. No need to purchase on line unless there are no stores nearby that sell computer accessories.

Here's an example of what one looks like. This from an on line supplier here in the US.
