Help! I don't get this problem at all.

My hub shows solid green light connection between my PowerMac G4 AGP and the hub.

My PowerMac is running OS X 10.3.

However, Network Status says "The cable for Built-in Ethernet is not plugged in".

I've checked, rechecked, and rerechecked all my manual settings and cable. I've replaced the Ethernet cable.

Other computers on the hub are doing just fine. A Linux machine, a Solaris 10 machine, and a Windows machine all have access to the net.

Thanks in advance,
James

Sounds James that the ethernet port is having problems. Take it you are using OS X Tiger or so? Run repair Permissions first up.

Check connections to the Sawtooth are nice and solid and if still not working time for a PCI Ethernet card perhaps?

iMac ethernet problem

I have an iMac 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo that won't recognize connection to a DSL modem. The modem works fine with a laptop. The message I get is: "This computer does not seem to be connected to a DSL or cable modem to to an ethernet network." I'm running OSX 10.4.11

any chance you just don't have the ip setting or encryption setup correctly? then it wouldn't connect ...

James you list - the hub - what is the hub? brand and model might help. My Panther stuff is somewhat rusty but given it is not Universal, upgrading to second hand copy of Tiger seems like a good move.

Connie my experience is that Macs always go on line thru ethernet no problem. With your indications i would be trying another cable, as i do recall an older ethernet plug not making contact when plugged in. Seems some socket/plug matchings are marginal. Can you get hold of a Cat 5 or Cat 6 cable and test with that

moopoo - other ports - my ports - what are we talking about here? Modem, Router or Ethernet Hub.

My iMac functioned fine until a storm knocked electricity out a little over a week ago. After hours of diagnostics with Verizon, getting the modem & ethernet cable tested at RadioShack, I bought a new Toshiba laptop and ordered a new DSL modem. The new modem & cable work fine with the laptop, but the iMac doesn't recognize either.
