iMac Not Connecting To Macbook

I am currently going to be moving to college beginning tomorrow, and I would love to be able to transfer certain files from my iMac to my Macbook. I decided to try to transfer my files through sharing. In other words, I enabled both File Sharing on each computer, then clicked on "Connect To Server..." through the Go menu. After that came up, I hit browse, and then double clicked on my Macbook which appeared. But after doing that, it tried to connect for a long while, only for the connection to fail. Anyone know what the problem could be? Help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
