I have a 2 year-old Macbook that is in need of some repair. The optical drive is broken and the "clicker" button below the touchpad is unresponsive. It also has some other "minor" issues - cosmetically and operational.
I realize it will cost me an arm and a leg to get it repaired and I don't feel like buying used parts off eBay and taking the computer apart and fixing it myself.
Well, here is the thing; my girlfriend bought herself a new Macbook that looks just like mine, and she got the 3-year AppleCare plan for it. So I'm basically planning on taking my computer to the Apple store along with her plan and try to get the nerd bar people (or whatever they're called) to work on it for me. I heard I might have to send the computer to Apple, but I don't know about that...
So my question is: would that work? I know a lot of people here are going to comment and say that it isn't fair to Apple, that it's illegal, and that I'm immoral, and so on. I realize all that. And I know I have no scruple/morals. In fact, I even cheat on our gov't system (my taxes are not exactly in line).
Anyway, I've already loaded the OS X that came with my girlfriend's computer into mine (I had lost my install CDs anyway). Also, I'm pretty good at BS'ing people. BS comes out of my mouth naturally (even my mother thinks I'm full of it). So I'm sure I could BS the nerd bar dudes at the Apple store.
But still, do you think they'd be able to detect the fact the Macbook wouldn't be the one purchased 3 months ago along with the AppleCare plan?
Looking forward to your comments. Thanks!!!
