I seem to have trouble shutting down - it tells me that Finder or another application has interrupted the log out. I have tried force quit, but none of the applications seem to be active in order to be able to force quit.

Is there a "force shut down"?

Thanks
Gord

Hold down the power button for 3 seconds or longer. The machine should shut down. That might also cure the problem you're having with shutting down from the Apple menu. Sometimes OS X will get "confused" about shutting down - this usually occurs after an error.

Regards.
