I would recommend XP since they are still having a lot of issues with Vista.

Don't get vista!

Get XP.
Vista sucks really bad,
but i have heard that they might be getting a new version of windows this time next year if you want to wait that long!
Is this counter strike thing only able to run on windows?
If so,
Get xp or wait and see what the new windows is like.

The picture below is what the new windows might look like.
Its called windows 7/ windows vienna.

(like good night vienna!)

So I should just simply buy windows Xp? Considering im not buying it for any other applications should I just buy the cheapest home edition or will the more expensive ones run faster?

Its a weigh up between these points in ascending order of importance,:

-Speed
-Compatibility with mac.
-Memory
-Cost (Doesnt matter that much)

Cheers

Counter Strike runs under Steam, which runs really well in Crossover.

Could be an option if that's all you need it for.

Otherwise I'd get XP. Though, despite the hatred Vista attracts here I've been using it as a gaming machine and media centre since day one and never had any show-stopping issues. But XP is the cheap, more straightforward choice for pure gaming.

If you want any of the newest games just put vista on. You have a powerful enough machine to run it all right.
