Hi all,

I Have a new macbook, middle of the three spec. I would like to run windows for a few lighting design programmes.

Am I better to run XP or vista, or does it make no difference?

Will Windows slow down my mac when I'm not using it?

Any help would be great!

Definitely XP for the fact that it takes up less space and uses fewer resources

Xp all the way. Stay as far as you can from Vista. Its Slower than XP, far less stable, and a resource hog. Vista is why I went to Mac.

I wouldn't even let Vista be in the same room as your Mac! :)

Windows won't have any effect on your computer's performance when it's not in use.

XP definitely.

I use XP/Parallels with 512mb RAM dedicated to it when it's running. It runs well as long as you don't have an abundance of applications running. It's usable with 2D cad files and Autocad 2004.

This leaves me 1.5GB of RAM for Leopard even while XP is running. I don't really notice a slowdown on the Leopard side.

When XP/Parallels is not running, no resources are used other than the hard drive space to store it. XP Pro w/ a few applications installed takes up about 20GB of space.

I would have to agree with everyone above. I have both XP and Vista on my Mac via Fusion just to see the differences in resources and functionality. Vista is nice to look at, but so are some hookers! Enter at own risk!

XP works flawlessly (tough word to use for a Windows product I know, but it is in context here)... Much faster and snappier, with a ton less overhead! Go with XP

BTW, I use XP everyday for most of the day (work related) while using OS X simultaneously. I fire up Vista about once maybe twice a week just see how updates are going and if I really miss it. Without fail, it reassures my decision to use XP....
