Possible damage to the screen?

Hi everybody.

I'm a new iMac user and I have a couple of simple question for you all.

1.
A couple of days ago, I decided to clean my iMac's screen with a soft cotton rag and a couple of drops of water and rubbing alcohol, because it was all smudgy and greasy from fingerprints. The question is: is it possible that the glass screen can be damaged doing that? Later on, I noticed two horizontal and blurry gray lines across the entire screen. They're not easy to notice, but maybe they've been there all along (original LCD?)

2.
I have two dead pixels on my LCD. They were here from the beginning. Is there an allowed limit to that, or I have the legal right to ask for a replacement of my iMac?

Thank you. I hope my questions will get answered.

1. It's glass, why not try glass cleaner?

2. No, the only company I know of that allows returns on LCDs with less than 3- 4 dead pixels is Dell. There are how many millions of pixels on your LCD? 2 dead pixels is awful in your eyes but that's an error rate of .00011%.

Thank you for that. Oh, well, I guess I'll have to pretend it's not there. :Grimmace:

So, you're saying that there is no way that I could damage the LCD behind the glass cover? For example, if you soaked it in water and cleaned it out entirely?

Glass isn't permiable from my knowledge. I know nothing about glass. But I don't ever get water in my apartment or in my car when it rains. Maybe condensation....

Alcohol probably wasn't the correct cleaning method. Try Windex or some glass/ scanner cleaner. Maybe the streaks you see now is residue from the alcohol.
