I have to agree. I don't usually like plain black backgrounds and side docks but your desktop looks great !

My monitor is set for 1680x1050, the standard 20" widescreen resolution.
I just moved the dock to the side (no effects or skins were used.) I was sick of the reflective dock. It also took up too much space at the bottom. The side dock actually takes up less space; I love it.

If I found some, I'd make icons for it. I just took the first knobs I found to make the icons.

Oh, and that's not my background. I don't think Gibsons are the best in the world. I do like Les Pauls more than Strats/Teles however. I have a cycle of Gibson backgrounds that cycle.

Wow, a few questions.

1. How do you change the system font?
2. How do you link your desktops into that pretty border for forums?

I change mine at leoparddocks.net

They also have instructions on the website. Just download the dock, and replace your original files with the new ones.

Go to Yourharddrive>system>Library>Core Services

Then Right click the Folder called "Dock" and click "show package contents".

Go to Contents>resources

Scroll down to the "Scurve" files. (there should be four)

Drag them to your desktop (to create copies incase you mess up) Then delete the originals out of the folder, and replace them with your downloaded ones.

Open the terminal. And type (without the quote marks) "killall Dock" then hit enter.

Check your dock.

Great set-up (though the size is WAY too big ;))

Question... What are the two programs in you menubar? The "bullseye" looking icon and the Temp and Fan info????

rybinov
04-24-2008, 11:50 PM
bullseye is a lockout/alarm program called iAlertU, temp and fan speed is called smcFanControl. It allows you to make preset fan speeds for when your comp is charging, charged and running on battery, and is easily changeable. great fr when you need to conserve battery or prevent overheating. Also, in case anyone gets curious, the little "gir" icon on my dock is just Adium.

Hmmm, wouldnt that be exactly what candybar does? Just guessing here. And by "screwing round with system files" you must mean, replacing one picture, with another.

Yeah it does, candybar just means that you don't accidently screw something up in the terminal if you aren't savvy with the commands.

I don't seem to have the option of setting a picture as background under "show view options". I also looked under Preferences and couldn't find it there either.

AK47. If you dont want to, then dont. But "killall Dock" is pretty simple.

Anyway, I am confused about the finder background too. Im interested as well.

1. Open finder.
2. press the view as icons button, next to column view etc.
3. right click and go into view options
4. set picture as finder background
5. horay

and CL33Zero, I was simply giving another option not trying to argue with you...

fleurya
04-27-2008, 03:40 AM
yeah, I figured out shortly after posting that you have to have Finder in icon view for it to work. Thanks anyway.

Seems pretty problematic though. If your folder of icons is bigger than the pic, the pic runs out. Seems like it should just be a stationary background.

AK47
04-27-2008, 05:40 AM
patterned backgrounds usually work best.

heres my one at the moment, it stretches across my 24" imac screen and my 22" dell.
