Most of the snow was gone last weekend, but of course that couldn't last in Minnesota. Had to snap a picture while dropping the kids off this morning, with the iPhone:

What night Monday eh? (I'm in Maplewood, Hello local! :)) Ya, snow was finally gone, but Minnesota says "NO! YOU NEED SNOW IN APRIL. And boom, snow.) Nice pic though, I took a pic on the day it was snowing, its in the March photo 2008, not best quality though. O well, bye!

Here's something a bit more spring-like. I took this today April 2, 2008 before going to work, using my Canon PowerShot G9. This was at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Vienna, Virginia. Enjoy!

Nice photo MO. It was a good move to make the branch come out from the corner. I would be a good idea to experiment with the flash with an image like that if the G9 has a fill flash feature. It might help some of the darker pedals at the bottom. This would get the darker petals in the front to really pop and separate from the background.

Darn you MO. You've got me in critique mode.

This morning I flew out of Long Beach airport in So. Cal. on my way home to Virginia. When I looked down I saw the Queen Mary and Spruce Goose (in the white dome) and snapped a quick picture:

The G9 does have a fill flash feature, but I'll confess I had a heck of a time getting the shot. There was a considerable breeze moving the branch constantly. Frankly I got lucky. ^_^ (As I recall, the shutter speed was 1/1250 sec.)

Noted though that the fill flash would be helpful here. I'd used it on another shot earlier. I'll keep it in mind when composing shots. Thanks!!!!!!!

Oops. Apparently the Spruce Goose isn't in the dome next to the Queen Mary any longer, as someone on my blog pointed out when I shared the same picture there.

This is one of the shots from a shoot I did for a tattoo shop that I particularly like.

The was shot with the Sigma 10-20 against a white wall with a 580ex II 1/3 of a stop from full power, iirc. The flash was behind a shoot through. I think I was also using a vivtar 285hv pointing straight up to light the left a little bit without interfering with the shades. I wanted that side to be a bit dark.

Thanks MHC - that means a lot as I've seen your work. I only had a couple of minutes as the sun rose so fast. I liked the effects on the buildings. I had a polarising lens cover and tried some more head on shots form another office but it was too much and shut the lens down.

Nice guitar shot!

Real strat?

I'd love to say it was a genuine Fender, but it's a Squier that I got for $150 along with a set of Fender American pickups. Obviously I switched 'em out, but for $150, it's actually a really good guitar, comparable in feel to the $400 Mexican Strat.

Guy at the local guitar shop said he couldn't tell the difference between that and a genuine Fender, so, I'll trust his word.

Hey - I'm not judging - my first guitar was a real strat knock-off... worst action I've ever seen on a guitar :)

Squier's are usually pretty decent!

Yeah, this is my second baby.

Made sure it got a proper setup after I put the pickups in. It's a great little axe.

Our architecture classes had our final project review and exhibition today. Everyone situated their wood, rope and fabric passage ways on a grass lot on our campus's plaza. Of all the shots I took I like this close up of some group's project the best. I made it black and white and upped the contrast a little in photoshop.

going low tech this month.

took this one last night - my son attempting to eat his foot - taken in my 3 year old's room while my wife read him bed time stories. i took a couple shots of the baby while i was keeping an eye on him.

the camera was the incredibly basic one on my t-mobile nokia phone. i set it to black and white before the pics were taken and have not altered the shot in any other way.

[not attaching this one to the post from the attachment - dimensions are just a bit too big.]

^^ cute! It's kind of scary to think of all the things we stuck in our mouths as babies. As far as I know it's a baby's favorite way to feel something: with their mouth.
