Advice on Speakers

Hey guys,
I want to buy some external speakers for my macbook pro. Can I get any computer speakers or does apple require a certain kind of jack? I was thinking I had tried some old computer speakers I have a few months ago and could not get a sound out of them, but I did not spend that much time with it. Is there something in "preference" that I have to set up to tell it to recognize external speakers or something?

Macbook Pro uses the standard 3.5" miniplug. So any speaker set which uses that connector will work just fine.

hey thanks kash... i am going to hook my old computer speakers to my MBP and then use it as a DVD player for my projector and instant view netflix- here i come
