I would recommend a top of the line iMac for you but I know you have a problem with display glare. The new iMacs with retina screen are hard on the eyes. I have my screen brightness turned down as much as possible and still be able to view things and the brightness is still too much for me.
I had looked for a non-gloss matte screen cover to use to remove the gloss from the iMac but could not find anything in the 27" size that was not a privacy screen. I thought I could live with the iMac if I used it as a secondary display since I already have a 32" BenQ monitor that I use as my main display but without being able to de-gloss the screen I worry about what it will do to my eyes.

I assume pm-r is referring to what I believe is a different garbage collection mechanism, but I am not sure.

Would not any of the iMac display anti-glare covers and/or any third party Brightness Controls work to help that situation??

Just a curious comment suggestion …

Not really, but topics like how much do you need for what you do and how the software uses it.

    IE:
You probably don't need 32GB of memory for your new MacBook Pro.

    do Macs need 32GB memory

    etc.

I do not want to be answering for chscag but I have to ask if you have a link to any anti-glare covers for the 27" iMacs as I could not find any that were really anti-glare. All I found was privacy and I do not need any of those.

Please backup. Everything has a life cycle, unexpected and warning free. Nothing will last as long as you want it to.

I have no experience with them but there are several options using a web search that works for me such as:
    anti-glare covers for 27" iMac

Thanks for the link. This may be a viable option for me.

I already have a matte 32" BenQ monitor that I like quite a bit, but I assume I can attach it to an iMac and use it as the primary monitor and use the iMac monitor itself as the secondary with this anti-glare cover on it.
