Questions about displays/future displays...

Hi,
I am thinking of getting a 30" Cinema HD for my gaming, Windows machine, now that the new video cards support it (YES!!!!!!!!!!), but I have a few questions.

Firstly, a 12", or 15" PowerBook would work with it (just waiting for my Dell "craptop" to die the 4th time...) fine, correct?

Secondly, I have a kind of low end video card (6600GT) as a hold-out card while in wait for the ATI R580, will the monitor work at all without a dual link DVI card?

Lastly, does anyone know if Apple is planning to roll out with any new monitors? I don't want to go and spend $2,500 today, and find a much improved series out tomorrow.

Thanks a lot!

PS- Don't tell me its not a gaming LCD, I know.

As far as I know, the 30" won't work without a dual link DVI card. If you really need it to work with that non-dual card, get a 23" display. I have one and it's sweeeeet. The 30" is awesome, but also awesomely expensive and you could put the cost difference toward that new laptop

:-D

It will not work with a 12" PowerBook, it is not Dual Link capable.

It will work with a PowerBook 15 and 17".

As sevenhelmet says - you need dual link capability in your card.

Myself personally, also saving for the 23" display, I have seen the 30" and it is awesome, I have used one even for a few hours, but I found myself having to move my head too much to take it all in (I do a lot of art based stuff) and so the 23" is for me.

Might be worth having a demo on both at your local Apple dealership.

Well, money is an issue, but I'll let you in on a hint, its not really my money, so its not all important. If I switch schools, then I will get the new laptop, so the 15" it is.

I will have to wait a little while for the video card/monitor combo, but its all good, it worth the wait.

Anyone know where I can find some info on Apples next possible line of displays?

Thanks!

Oh, and I have taken a demo of the 30", and the 23", and I loved them both, but the sheer awe inspiring size and quality of the 30" was enough to persuade me. And now that dual link gaming graphics cards for PC's have hit the market, that dream may become a reality.

What kind of system do you have that can run games at those resolutions?
