Apple's widely praised design chief Jonathan Ive has no true boss who can tell him what to do at the company, a distinction put in place by Steve Jobs himself.

Ive isn't the world's most innovative designer, but he's very good. I'm very glad he's on board at Apple but I don't quite understand why people are fascinated that Jobs wanted him left alone. That's EXACTLY how he operated at Apple when Jobs was alive ... Steve would tell him what he'd like to see and leave Ive to get on with it. Nothing's really changed, and frankly if Cook and Ive decide to change that relationship they will.
